Public Meetings To Discuss Cuts To Funding
Published: 20 January 2019
Public meetings were held at Bishton Village Hall on Tuesday 15th January 2019 @ 7.00 p.m. and at Underwood Community Centre on Thursday 17th January 2019 @ 7.00 p.m. This provided background to the Newport City Council’s decision to withdraw £16,050 from Bishton Community Council’s funding from 2019/20 onwards, money which contributes to the funding of discretionary services across our community such as Underwood Community Centre, Bishton Village Hall, sports field, allotments, play park etc. It was confirmed that Bishton Community Council along with a number of other Community Councils had strongly resisted the cuts and that Ward Councillor Martyn Kellaway had also raised the issue formally with Newport City Council (link to Question and Answer on the issue). Full details of the issue, the facts, figures, options moving forward were provided and residents took the opportunity to have their say on the matter.
The feedback from the meetings was welcomed by the Councillors and will be used to inform the decision making process as we look to set the precept for the coming year in light of loss of the £16,050 concurrent contribution from Newport City Council.
