It has full central heating with a stage, plus kitchen, standard and disabled toilets, a gym, and small side meeting and storage rooms. There is car parking available in the vicinity for up to about 20 vehicles. Monthly meetings of the Council are held in the Centre or at Bishton Village Hall

The Centre is a popular venue for local groups but some vacant slots can usually be hired for special events (including private parties) and new organisations. To book the Underwood Community Centre please ring John Davies 07722413066 or bookingsunderwoodcc@gmail.com

The current Underwood Community Centre building was planned and built by BCC in 1990-91. It replaced two former POW huts from the former WWII Prisoner of War camp which were used as the first Community Centre and a boxing club. The new Centre cost over £110,000 and was financed by the Council with the assistance of an “ urban grant” of £50,000 from central Government ( the Welsh Office). An extension was added in 1994 (the current gym and former meeting room) at a cost of £17,000.

The one acre site of the Centre was originally leased to BCC in 1974 by Newport Borough Council. Our original lease for the land included the land now used for the Health Centre : this was built at about the same time as the new community centre. BCC agreed to cede that proportion of the site so a new lease could be issued by Newport Borough Council to the Health Centre in May 1991. The freeholder for both sites is now understood to be Newport City Homes.

The construction of a further extension to the Community Centre was completed in 2022 and carried out in partnership with Active Underwood. Please see the dedicated project area which can be found on the website Home page for full details of the project, updated plans and project updates as the construction progressed.

The finished extension is now the home of a purpose built community gym managed by Active Underwood.
